Lithuania turns back eight migrants at Belarus border

Lithuanian border guards turned back eight migrants attempting to enter the country illegally from Belarus over the previous 24 hours, LRT reported on Sunday, citing the State Border Guard Service.

Latvian border guards turned back 67 migrants on Saturday, while Poland prevented 26 foreigners from entering the country from its border area on Friday.

Lithuania has refused entry to 1,040 migrants attempting to cross illegally this year. Last year, people attempted to enter the country from Belarus through unauthorised locations more than 1,600 times. The figure was 1,002 the year before.

Since the start of the migration crisis caused by Belarus, Lithuanian border guards have prevented more than 25,600 foreigners from entering the country illegally.

The influx of migrants from Belarus to the EU’s eastern member states began in 2021. Western countries accuse the Minsk regime of organising it.
