A strong storm is moving across Lithuania, bringing lightning and locally heavy rain, LRT reported.

Forecasters said a severe storm was forming in the country toward the evening. The Facebook page Weather and Climate in Lithuania warned of a second-level storm threat in southern and southeastern regions, with large hail, strong wind gusts and intense rainfall expected.

Severe weather was recorded near Joniškis and Alytus on Friday evening.

Saturday is expected to be cloudy with sunny spells. Short periods of rain are forecast in many districts, with some areas receiving heavy showers. Thunderstorms are expected across much of the country, and stronger storm clouds could produce small hail.

Thunderstorms may also strengthen the wind, with gusts reaching 15 to 20 metres per second in some places, Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service forecaster Tadas Kantautas told LRT Radio.
