Elron raises fares in Tallinn and nearby rail zones

Elron raised single-ticket prices by five to 10 cents on August 1 in the first and second fare zones, covering journeys within Tallinn and on nearby suburban rail lines, ERR reported. The change does not affect Tallinn residents’ right to free travel, which is funded by the city.

The fare increase is linked to continued growth in operating costs. Elron’s head of suburban services, Rauno Riiner, said the company was aligning prices across all zones after changes in the other zones last August.

The price of a single ticket in the first zone increased by 10 cents, to €2.20. A discounted ticket in the same zone now costs €1.50, up from €1.40. A single ticket covering two zones rose by five cents, to €2.55.

Suburban trains have five fare zones. Zone I covers journeys within Tallinn, extending from Balti Jaam to Vesse in the east and south, Valdeku in the southwest and Laagri in the west.

Elron, formally AS Eesti Liinirongid, is a state-owned operator that runs passenger trains on railway infrastructure owned by Eesti Raudtee and Edelaraudtee. Its trains carried out 7.66 million journeys in 2025.
