Lithuanian parliament expected to hold unscheduled sitting in late August

Lithuanian Parliament Speaker Juozas Olekas says the parliament is expected to hold an unscheduled sitting in late August, although it remains unclear whether an extraordinary session will be convened, LRT reports.

“The board of the Seimas will still meet and decide. For now, it is planned that one unscheduled sitting of the Seimas will take place at the end of August,” Olekas told reporters at parliament on Friday.

The parliament ended its extended spring session in mid-July. The session had been due to end on June 30 but continued until almost mid-July after changes to the governing majority forced lawmakers to revise their plans, according to ELTA.

The Lithuanian Parliament holds two regular sessions each year. The spring session begins on March 10 and ends on June 30, while the autumn session begins on September 10 and ends on December 23.
