Firefighters in Klaipėda collected approximately 300 millilitres of mercury that had spilled in a warehouse, the Fire and Rescue Department (PAGD) reported on Tuesday.

According to PAGD, the incident occurred in the port city at a logistics warehouse on Svajonės Street. A broken barometer had released the mercury, covering an area of about four square metres on the concrete floor.

Upon arrival, firefighters performed mechanical cleanup and conducted two chemical demercurisation procedures to remove the mercury. Authorities recommended that the collected mercury be taken to a hazardous waste collection site.
