Two Vilnius residents have lost a combined €25,000 to phone scammers, according to a report by LRT citing the Lithuanian Police Department.

A 79-year-old man reported to the Vilnius County Chief Police Commissariat on Thursday that on July 18, Russian-speaking individuals called him at home, posing as bank employees and police officers. The scammers convinced him to transfer €13,000.

On the same day, a 71-year-old woman reported that on July 14, an unknown Russian-speaking woman called her at home. The caller persuaded her to install software that allowed remote access to her mobile phone. The scammers then stole approximately €12,000 from her bank account.

Police have launched pre-trial investigations in both cases.
