The Homeland Union–Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD) has nominated 21 candidates for the upcoming Kaunas mayoral election, the party announced on Tuesday.

Among the candidates are MPs Gintarė Skaistė and Giedrė Balčytytė, signatory of the Act of Independence of Lithuania Aleksandras Abišala, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture Laura Ramanauskaitė, director of the National Kaunas Drama Theatre Egidijus Stancikas, TS-LKD faction elder in the Kaunas City Council Martynas Prievelis, and director, publicist, and public figure Šarūnas Jasiukevičius.

“The festival of democracy has begun! Our branches have already made their choice, so the time when the people of Kaunas will vote is approaching,” said Kamilė Gogelienė, TS-LKD executive secretary.

A meeting of the Kaunas Union Council will take place this Thursday to decide which individuals will participate in the open mayoral primaries, with a maximum of five candidates allowed. Voter registration for party supporters will run from August 4 to 20, while the primary elections will be held on August 29–30 in Kaunas. The direct elections for mayor and city council members will take place next spring.
