Phone scammers defraud two Lithuanian residents of €33,800

Two Lithuanian residents have been defrauded of a total of €33,800 by Russian-speaking phone scammers, according to a report by the Police Department cited by LRT.

A 74-year-old woman in Vilnius reported to the Vilnius County Chief Police Commissariat on Tuesday that unknown individuals, posing as employees of Google, a bank, and police officers, had deceived her out of €14,000 on Monday afternoon.

In a separate incident, a 66-year-old woman in Zarasai district reported to local police on Tuesday that Russian-speaking scammers, impersonating bank and police officials, had tricked her into transferring €19,830 on Monday morning.

Police have launched pre-trial investigations into both cases under fraud allegations.
