Cucumber festival kicks off in Kėdainiai with 50,000 cucumbers for visitors
The 29th annual Cucumber Festival begins in Kėdainiai on Saturday, inviting visitors to a celebration of green fashion, LRT reports.
Organisers have prepared around 50,000 cucumbers to treat attendees. The event will feature the longest green podium in the city park, open for all to walk.
According to Daiva Urbonienė, director of the Kėdainiai Culture Centre, the festival will see participation not only from residents but also local businesses and institutions, each interpreting the cucumber theme in creative ways.
“This week, the city has already turned green in honour of the event. Even the traffic lights will display green cucumbers instead of the usual green light. This isn’t just decoration—people, businesses, and institutions are all joining the cucumber fever, creating and improvising in the most unexpected ways to celebrate our vegetable, the cucumber,” Urbonienė said.
The festival will open with a vintage car exhibition at Didžiosios Rinkos Square. From noon, the city park will host a fair of creators and artisans, an entertainment area, and in the afternoon, a Green Fashion Show will take place, with visitors encouraged to dress in green or cucumber-inspired outfits.
In the culinary zone, chef Alfas Ivanauskas will prepare cucumber ice cream, alongside various salads and dishes featuring cucumbers as the main ingredient. The festival will conclude with a concert featuring the band Kitava, as well as performances by Anyanya, Aistė, and Natalija Bunkė with live bands.
