An investigation has been launched following a video circulating on social media showing a minor assaulting another minor in Marijampolė, with the victim requiring medical assistance, LRT reports.

The video, which spread on social media on Tuesday evening, depicts a girl seated on a bench being struck multiple times in the head with a phone by another minor. A second girl then takes the phone and also hits the victim, while others stand by, laughing, without intervening.

Justė Vasiliauskienė, a senior specialist at the Marijampolė District Chief Police Commissariat, confirmed that a report was received. “We were contacted. Preliminary data indicates the suspect is a 12-year-old. Last night, we began clarifying the circumstances,” she told ELTA and LRT.lt.

The Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a pre-trial investigation. According to prosecutors, the victim suffered dozens of blows with hands, feet, and a phone. Bystanders recorded the incident, and the footage spread online the same evening. The victim later sought medical treatment.

Police have urged the public not to share the video or images of the incident, nor to disclose the identities of the minors involved, to avoid further harm, privacy violations, or encouraging retaliation.

The investigation is currently being conducted under Article 284 of the Criminal Code (Violation of Public Order). Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances or the victim’s condition.
