New Lithuanian government to hold first cabinet meeting
The newly formed Lithuanian government led by Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius will hold its first cabinet meeting on Wednesday, LRT reports.
The 21st government officially assumed office on Tuesday after the Seimas (parliament) approved its programme and swore in Sinkevičius and his cabinet. The coalition government was formed by the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), the Democratic Union “For Lithuania”, and the Lithuanian Farmers, Greens and Christian Families Union (LVŽKŠS) factions.
The cabinet includes Taurimas Valys as finance minister, Ieva Andriulaitytė as environment minister, Lukas Alsys as culture minister, Martynas Katelynas as interior minister, and Inga Ruginienė as social security and labour minister. Robertas Kaunas remains defence minister, Raminta Popovienė continues as education, science and sports minister, while Kęstutis Budrys takes over as foreign minister and Juras Taminskas as transport minister.
Rita Tamašunienė (LLRA-KŠS) retains her position as justice minister, and Edvinas Grikšas (LVŽKŠS) stays on as economy and innovation minister. Lukas Savickas, Linas Kukuraitis, and Kęstutis Mažeika from the Democratic Union “For Lithuania” will serve as energy, health, and agriculture ministers, respectively.
The previous government led by Inga Ruginienė resigned after the ruling coalition was reshuffled, prompting Sinkevičius to take on the role of forming a new cabinet.
