Rūta Miliūtė, a member of the “For Lithuania” Democratic faction, has been elected chair of the Seimas commission responsible for awarding the Aleksandro Stulginskis Star, reports ELTA.

The full Seimas will still need to confirm her appointment in a vote. Viktoras Pranckietis, a member of the Liberal Movement faction and the initiator of the award, will continue as deputy chair of the commission.

The commission consists of nine Seimas members: Dalia Asanavičiūtė-Gružauskienė, Ruslanas Baranovas, Ligita Girskienė, Vytautas Jucius, Rūta Miliūtė, Arvydas Pocius, Viktoras Pranckietis, Paulius Visockas, and Jūratė Zailskienė. Democrat Lukas Savickas, who became energy minister, is no longer part of the commission.

The Seimas established the Aleksandro Stulginskis Star award to mark the 100th anniversary of the Constituent Assembly and the proclamation of the Republic of Lithuania, aiming to honor the outstanding personality of Aleksandro Stulginskis. The award recognizes achievements and contributions by Lithuanian and foreign individuals and legal entities in fostering the ideas of parliamentarism, democracy, and statehood.

The first recipients of the award in 2022 were President Valdas Adamkus and US Senator Richard Joseph Durbin.
