Russia has intensified information warfare against Europe, presidential advisor says

Russia has intensified its information warfare against Europe, with a particular focus on the Baltic states, according to Asta Skaisgirytė, the Lithuanian president’s senior foreign policy advisor.

“Recently, we have seen a certain intensification of information warfare in relations with Russia. This is not just about Lithuania, but also about other EU countries, especially the Baltic states,” Skaisgirytė told Žinių Radijas on Tuesday, as reported by BNS.

Earlier this year, Russia announced plans to take the Baltic states to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over alleged pressure on Russian-speaking minorities. A recent international investigation by LRT revealed that a Moscow-based law firm, involving so-called historians linked to special services, is preparing the case.

“This is all clear slander and lies,” Skaisgirytė said. She did not disclose how Lithuania would respond to the lawsuit.

“There are asymmetric measures that Lithuania can always apply, but we don’t talk about them too loudly because then they would no longer be as effective. These measures exist, and I believe that if necessary, we will use them,” she added.

Russia has also recently accused the Baltic states of aiding Ukraine in carrying out drone strikes on energy facilities in northwest Russia, a claim rejected by European governments as disinformation.
