ICE officers accused of another fatal shooting in Maine

A person was shot and killed in Biddeford, Maine, on Monday, with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers involved in the incident, according to a report by CNN citing Ryan Fecteau, Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives.

Fecteau confirmed the death in a Facebook post, stating: “A person has died. ICE officers were involved. The State Police and Department of Public Safety are currently on the scene gathering information, and we expect the FBI to conduct an investigation as well. That is all the information I have at this time. I will provide updates as I receive them.”

CNN has reached out to ICE and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for comment.

This incident follows a recent shooting in Houston, Texas, where an ICE officer fatally shot a Mexican immigrant during a traffic stop. The victim, 52-year-old Lorenzo Salgado, was in his work van at the time. U.S. authorities claimed the officer fired in self-defense after Salgado, a long-time U.S. resident, allegedly attempted to evade arrest and used his vehicle as a weapon.

Salgado’s death marked the first fatal shooting by federal agents since January, when Americans Renee Good and Alex Pretti were killed in Minneapolis, sparking nationwide protests and demands for accountability.
