Women attacked in Alytus, sexual assault investigation launched

Lithuanian police have launched an investigation into a sexual assault after a woman was attacked in Alytus on Sunday, LRT.lt reports, citing local news portal Alytausgidas.lt.

Alytus Chief Police Commissariat spokesperson Eglė Kačinskienė confirmed that a man threatened a woman with a knife and attempted to rape her in a park on Jurgiškių Street around 2 p.m. on July 5. No suspects have been formally charged at this stage.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed further details to protect the victim’s privacy and avoid compromising the investigation. Police stated they are carrying out all necessary procedural steps to examine the incident.
