Lithuania’s Special Investigation Service (STT) will not launch a pre-trial investigation into alleged corruption involving acting Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius, water utility Jonavos vandenys, and law firm Ellex Valiūnas, LRT reports.
The decision follows a complaint from activist Andrius Tapinas, which prompted the STT to review potential wrongdoing. In a statement, the STT said it had examined all available information and determined that “no elements of criminal activity were identified” during the preliminary inquiry.
“The review did not establish any violations of legal requirements in the selection of legal service providers by Jonavos vandenys and M. Sinkevičius. It was also confirmed that Sinkevičius and his family’s income was sufficient to cover the fee for the legal services in question,” the STT added.
