Lithuania’s Court of Appeals has upheld the conviction of Jolanta Margaitienė, the former director of the Radviliškis District Municipality administration, for abuse of office, document forgery, and misappropriation of municipal property, LRT reports.
The court rejected Margaitienė’s appeal and confirmed the Šiauliai Regional Court’s ruling, which imposed an €8,000 fine and a three-year ban on holding leadership positions in state or municipal institutions. She was also ordered to pay over €1,000 in damages to the Radviliškis District Municipality.
According to the Special Investigation Service (STT), Margaitienė falsified documents in March 2023 to declare a municipality-owned mobile phone as unusable, despite it being functional. She later used the phone for personal purposes. The investigation was led by the Šiauliai County Prosecutor’s Office for Organised Crime and Corruption.
A second individual, an employee of a Radviliškis-based company, was acquitted of giving false statements in the same case. The appeals court’s decision is final but may be challenged in the Supreme Court of Lithuania.
