Lithuania proposes additional €10 million for disability support compensation

The Lithuanian Ministry of Finance has proposed allocating an additional €10 million to cover compensation for individuals with disabilities who require personal assistance, as reported by LRT.

The request comes from the Ministry of Social Security and Labour, which states that this year’s funding for such compensation falls short by €95 million—€10 million for the third quarter and €85 million for the fourth, though the latter figure may be adjusted based on the reallocation of funds between different support measures.

The ministry had initially requested €406.6 million for these compensations in 2026, but the state budget allocated only €352 million. Municipal data shows that in the first quarter of the year, an average of 126,800 people received monthly compensation ranging from €131 to €569, with approximately €34.2 million disbursed each month. Last year, €378.7 million was allocated for this purpose, benefiting an average of 121,400 individuals.

If approved by the government, the additional funds will be sourced from state-borrowed money.
