Hailstorm hits Panevėžys district in rare summer weather

Residents in northern Lithuania reported hailstones falling from the sky on Saturday afternoon, with social media posts showing the ground covered in ice, LRT.lt reports.

The unusual summer hail occurred around 5 PM, as users in the Weather Enthusiasts Facebook group shared images and accounts of the phenomenon in the Panevėžys district.

Meteorologists forecast continued cool and often overcast weather in the coming days. Monday night will bring short-term rain in many areas, with thick cloud cover, strong westerly winds—reaching 15–17 m/s in coastal regions—and temperatures holding between 10–15°C. Daytime conditions will remain unstable, with scattered showers, possible thunderstorms, and temperatures of 17–22°C. Rain is expected to ease by Monday evening.

Tuesday will see a new band of thick clouds moving in from the west, bringing overcast skies with occasional clear spells. Intermittent rain is likely throughout the day and night in many regions, accompanied by moderate westerly to southwesterly winds. Temperatures will range from 10–15°C at night to 15–20°C during the day.
