Scammers swindle over €24,000 from women in Klaipėda and Vilnius

The Lithuanian Police Department reported on Sunday that scammers have defrauded two women from Klaipėda and Vilnius of more than €24,000 in total.

A 58-year-old Klaipėda resident contacted police on Saturday, stating that unknown individuals called her at home on July 3 around 10:50 AM. The callers, who spoke Russian, posed as employees of a telecommunications company, a bank, and police officers, swindling her out of €12,700.

Later the same day, a 76-year-old woman from Vilnius reported a similar incident to the capital’s police. She said that around 12:30 PM on July 3, Russian-speaking scammers, also impersonating bank employees and police officers, tricked her into transferring €11,500.

Pre-trial investigations into the fraud cases have been launched in both instances.
