Venezuela awards Hero Orders to Lithuanian rescuers and medics

Venezuela’s acting president has awarded Hero Orders to Lithuanian rescue teams and medical personnel in recognition of their assistance following devastating earthquakes in the country, LRT reports.

In a letter to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, Delcy Rodriguez expressed gratitude for Lithuania’s timely and valuable support after the earthquakes affected multiple regions of Venezuela. She emphasised that solidarity and international cooperation take on deeper meaning in the face of disaster, and that Lithuania’s humanitarian aid serves as undeniable proof of the friendship, mutual respect, and collaborative ties uniting the two nations.

Lithuanian rescue and medical teams are working around the clock in the earthquake-stricken areas. The State Fire and Rescue Service’s international search and rescue team (LERT) is conducting search operations in destroyed settlements, while the Emergency Medical Team (EMT) is providing urgent medical care to those affected by the disaster.

Lithuania’s EMT has set up a mobile field hospital to provide medical assistance to Venezuelans who have lost their homes. The hospital is located near a camp expected to temporarily house around 2,500 people.

On July 2, a significant shipment of humanitarian aid and specialised rescue equipment was delivered to Venezuela. The earthquakes in Venezuela have claimed at least 2,000 lives, with tens of thousands still missing, and many in need of medical assistance.
