Lithuania braces for storms with heavy rain, hail, and squalls
Lithuania is preparing for severe weather as the national meteorological service, Meteo.lt, warns of short but intense thunderstorms, heavy rain, and possible squalls with hail across the country on Tuesday, according to a report by LRT.lt.
Winds are expected to reach 6–11 m/s, with squalls in some areas hitting 15–20 m/s. As of 12:30 PM, rain clouds are moving through western Lithuania, while storm clouds with thunderstorms are forming in the southern regions. The highest risk of severe storms is in the southeastern part of the country, including the Druskininkai municipality, Varėna district, Šalčininkai district, and the southern part of Vilnius district.
Meteo.lt advises residents to secure windows and doors, remove lightweight objects from yards, balconies, and other open areas, and avoid parking near tall trees. Those outdoors should stay away from trees, billboards, power lines, lightning rods, metal towers, open areas, and bodies of water. Drivers caught in storms are urged to remain focused, keep both hands on the wheel, and adjust speed according to road conditions.
Weather conditions are expected to change on Wednesday, with scattered rain and thunderstorms continuing overnight in some areas. Temperatures will hover around 13–18°C at night and rise to 21–26°C during the day.
