A toddler was seriously injured after falling from a fifth-floor window in Kelmė on Tuesday, according to a report by LRT.

The incident occurred at around 14:30 local time, when the 18-month-old child fell through an open window. Emergency services transported the child to the Republican Šiauliai Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Doctors describe the child’s condition as serious but stable.

Police have launched an investigation under the Criminal Code article covering severe health damage due to negligence. This is the second similar incident in the Šiauliai region recently. On Monday evening, another child, born in 2024, was hospitalised after falling from a fourth-floor window in Šiauliai. That child was later transferred to a hospital in Kaunas. Authorities are investigating potential violations of parental or guardian duties in that case.
