Lithuanian rescue and medical teams en route to Venezuela

Lithuania’s rescue and medical teams, deployed to provide international assistance to Venezuela following a devastating earthquake, have reached Germany and begun their flight to the disaster zone, the Government Chancellery announced on Monday.

The Lithuanian international assistance and emergency medicine teams are travelling to Venezuela in cooperation with the German Armed Forces. Lithuanian specialists, along with all necessary equipment and supplies, are being transported by German military aircraft via the route Wunstorf – Lajes – Caracas. Their arrival at Simón Bolívar International Airport is scheduled for June 30.

According to the government, the teams include Lithuanian rescuers, medical personnel, and cynologists with service dogs. Their primary tasks are search and rescue operations in rubble and providing emergency medical aid in the most affected areas.

Lithuania is also sending a significant shipment of humanitarian aid, including medical equipment, medications, and other essential supplies to support rescue and relief operations on the ground.

The deployment of the Lithuanian teams to Venezuela was made possible through close cooperation with Germany. The two countries’ institutions quickly coordinated logistical solutions, allowing Lithuanian specialists to integrate into the international relief operation and ensuring their rapid transport to the disaster zone.

Upon arrival, the Lithuanian specialists will join international rescue and medical forces conducting search, rescue, and relief operations following one of the largest natural disasters in the region in recent decades. On Sunday, Venezuelan authorities reported that the death toll from two earthquakes had risen to at least 1,450, with more than 3,200 injured and thousands still potentially trapped under rubble.
