Heatwave to ease in Lithuania as scorching temperatures retreat
Scorching temperatures will begin to retreat from Lithuania in the second half of the week, according to Edita Gečaitė, a forecaster at the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service (LHMT).
Gečaitė said the weather will remain muggy in the coming days. Tuesday night will see few clouds with a low chance of rain, accompanied by light westerly to northwesterly winds. After an exceptionally hot Monday, nighttime temperatures will drop to 16–21°C, offering little relief.
Tuesday will also be mostly clear, though a cold atmospheric front moving across the country may bring brief showers and possible thunderstorms in some areas. Daytime temperatures will range between 27–32°C, with most regions still experiencing 30–32°C. Western Lithuania will be cooler, with highs of 24–26°C.
Midweek will bring more significant changes. Wednesday night will see increased cloud cover, scattered showers, and temperatures falling to 14–19°C. Daytime will feature short, refreshing rain showers and thunderstorms, with wind gusts reaching 15–20 m/s in some areas. Temperatures will climb to 28–32°C, though western regions will see 22–27°C.
Gečaitė noted that the oppressive heat—defined as temperatures of 30–32°C—will persist mainly in the southeastern part of the country. By Thursday, brief showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue, with nighttime lows of 14–19°C. Daytime temperatures will reach 22–27°C as the heatwave subsides.
On Friday, a cold front will cross the country, bringing short-term rain and thunderstorms, with stronger southwest to west winds. Wind gusts may reach 15–18 m/s in western regions. Nighttime temperatures will drop to 12–17°C, while daytime highs will be 19–24°C.
Saturday will see scattered rain clouds, with brief showers expected across much of the country. Winds will remain strong, with gusts of 15–17 m/s in places. Temperatures will continue to fall, with lows of 11–16°C and highs of 18–23°C.
Sunday will also be rainy, with widespread showers both day and night. Temperatures will stay cool, with lows of 10–15°C and highs of 19–23°C.
