Lithuania braces for possible new heat record on Sunday

Lithuania’s Hydrometeorological Service (LHT) has warned of a very high probability that a new daily temperature record could be set on Sunday, as temperatures are expected to reach 31–36°C across the country.

In a post on its Meteo.lt Facebook page, the service described Sunday as clear and dry, with variable winds of 3–8 m/s. The current record for June 28 was set in Druskininkai in 2024, at 34°C.

Saturday saw no rainfall, with temperatures peaking at 28–33°C, or 26–27°C in some areas. Druskininkai recorded the highest temperature at 32.8°C, just half a degree short of the June 27 record. Overnight temperatures ranged from 14–19°C, or 20–21°C in some coastal areas, including Nida and Vente Cape, where tropical nights—where temperatures do not drop below 20°C—were observed.
