Lithuanian political analyst predicts significant government reshuffle with at least 6–7 ministers replaced

A significant reshuffle in Lithuania’s government is likely, with at least six or seven ministers expected to be replaced, political analyst Saulius Jakučionis said in an interview with LRT Television’s Dienos tema.

Jakučionis noted that final decisions would depend on discussions between incoming Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius, current and potential ministers, and the president. However, he estimated that the changes could affect up to 10 ministers if key positions such as transport and foreign affairs are included.

When asked about potential candidates, Jakučionis mentioned Transport Minister Juras Taminskas, who has been speculated to move to the finance portfolio, though Taminskas himself has indicated he is comfortable in his current role. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Vladislavas Kondratovičius could be reassigned, with Martynas Katelynas rumored as a possible replacement.

Political scientist Rima Urbonaitė cautioned that such reshuffles—moving the same individuals between ministries—may not lead to qualitative improvement. She also questioned whether Katelynas, whose political career has involved switching parties, has the necessary experience for a ministerial role.

Sinkevičius has stated that he values not only experience but also determination and courage in his cabinet, suggesting dissatisfaction with the current pace and boldness of leadership.
