Klaipėda police have confiscated nearly 4,000 litres of alcoholic beverages and 217 blocks of cigarettes during raids, LRT reports.

According to a statement from the Klaipėda County Chief Police Commissariat, authorities—acting on information about possible illegal trade in excise goods such as alcohol and cigarettes—launched a pre-trial investigation in June into the unlawful handling of excisable products.

During mid-June raids in the port city, officers seized nearly 4,000 litres of various alcoholic drinks and 217 blocks of cigarettes. Some of the cigarettes lacked the required government tax stamps, while others bore stamps from third countries. Investigators also found over €900 in cash, e-cigarettes, e-liquid, and around 300 litres of diesel fuel.

A 44-year-old man was detained as part of the investigation, and a court ordered his remand in custody for 10 days. The maximum penalty for the illegal handling of excisable goods is up to eight years in prison.
