Firefighter dies while clearing fallen tree from road in Varėna district

A firefighter died on Sunday while removing a fallen tree from a road in the village of Šiliniai, Varėna district, the BNS news agency reports.

The incident occurred around 18:20 local time, according to the Jasauskai firefighting team, where the deceased, Valdas Ramaška, worked. A passing driver noticed the collapsed firefighter and alerted emergency services. Responding crews confirmed the man’s death at the scene.

Police have launched a pre-trial investigation to determine the cause of death.
