A Vilnius court has approved a two-month pre-trial detention for a man suspected of several violent incidents in the capital, the Prosecutor’s Office announced on Tuesday.

According to pre-trial investigation data, on June 5 at around 18:45, the suspect repeatedly punched another man in the face during a dispute in the courtyard of a residential building in Vilnius, causing physical pain. On June 11 at around 13:00, the same man allegedly attacked a female employee in a Vilnius store without clear motive, striking her in the face with his fist. When she fell to the ground, he continued to beat and kick her before leaving the scene.

Prosecutors state that additional evidence has been gathered regarding other potential cases of aggressive behaviour by the same individual in Vilnius. The investigation is ongoing to clarify all circumstances, identify and interview possible witnesses, and locate other potential victims.

Under the Criminal Code, violation of public order can carry a prison sentence of up to two years, while causing minor health disorders due to hooligan motives may result in up to five years of imprisonment.
