Lithuania turns back 12 illegal migrants at Belarus border

Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service (VSAT) reported that 12 illegal migrants were turned away at the Belarus border over the past day, LRT reports.

Meanwhile, Latvian border guards prevented 71 migrants from entering the country on Tuesday, while Polish authorities reported no such cases the previous day.

Last year, Lithuanian officials blocked over 1,600 attempts by migrants to cross from Belarus, with 792 recorded so far this year. Since the start of the migration crisis triggered by Belarus, Lithuania has denied entry to approximately 25,300 illegal migrants.

The influx of migrants to the EU’s eastern borders began in 2021, with Western nations accusing Minsk of orchestrating the crisis.
