Vilnius residents alarmed by attacker in Užupis, police launch investigation
Residents of Vilnius have raised concerns over a man reportedly attacking people in the Užupis district, with images of the suspect circulating on social media, LRT.lt reports.
According to police, a pre-trial investigation has been launched following reports of the man assaulting a woman in a shop, striking her in the face. The incident is being investigated as a case of minor bodily harm, which under the Criminal Code can result in restrictions on freedom, arrest, or imprisonment for up to three years.
Residents claim the man attacked women in Užupis a few days ago but was seen walking around the city on Monday, allegedly carrying dangerous items. His photos, name, and surname have been shared online.
Ramūnas Matonis, head of the Police Department’s communications division, confirmed that authorities are looking into the situation. He noted that various preventive measures can be applied to suspects, with detention—the most severe—used only in exceptional cases when justified.
Police have not commented on the suspect’s health condition, a concern raised by residents. As of now, authorities have not confirmed whether the man remains at large, promising further details after noon.
