President to deliver seventh annual address to parliament

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda will deliver his seventh annual address to the Seimas (parliament) on Tuesday, as reported by the BNS news agency.

The constitution requires the president to present a yearly report reviewing the country’s situation, domestic and foreign policy. In last year’s address, Nausėda emphasised the need to invest in national defence, expand the defence industry, and initiate a discussion on the potential need for small modular nuclear reactors in Lithuania. He also called for better road maintenance funding and greater trust in municipalities.

Addressing politicians, the president urged them to carefully consider their future in politics. The parliament also faced criticism for failing to legalise gender-neutral partnerships, with Nausėda pushing for necessary amendments. While a draft law has been prepared, it has not yet been submitted to the Seimas.

Traditionally, state leaders deliver their annual addresses during the spring session of the parliament.
