The eternal flame at the Vytautas the Great War Museum in Kaunas was briefly extinguished on Friday, as reported by the Kaunas Fire and Rescue Board.

According to the authorities, a report was received at approximately 16:57 that the eternal flame in the museum’s courtyard on K. Donelaičio Street had gone out and a gas odour was detected. The symbolic flame, dedicated to those who died for Lithuania’s freedom, was later relit.

The eternal flame burning next to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is the only monument of its kind in Lithuania.
