Fire in Kaunas apartment building leads to evacuation of 20 people

Twenty people were evacuated from an apartment building in Kaunas early Friday due to a fire, LRT reports.

According to the Kaunas Fire and Rescue Board, authorities received a report at 2:49 AM of black smoke and a burning smell coming from an apartment on Draugystės Street. Upon arrival, firefighters found the staircase heavily smoke-filled, with smoke pouring from a utility room on the first floor where household waste and three tyres were burning.

The utility room, measuring 2 square metres, was damaged, along with a wooden door. The space had previously been designated for a household waste container. Firefighters ventilated the staircase, and residents were allowed to return to their apartments after the smoke cleared.
