With Social Democrats and Democrats “For Lithuania” nearing a new coalition agreement, some ministers from the “Nemuno aušra” party attended what may be one of their last Cabinet meetings on Tuesday, LRT reports.

Agriculture Minister Andrius Palionis confirmed he will step down, planning to return to business. His party colleague, Environment Minister Kastytis Žuromskas, said the experience was valuable but did not specify his next steps.

Other ministers remained cautious about their futures. Finance Minister Kristupas Vaitiekūnas, also a party leader, expressed confidence in his delegation but acknowledged uncertainty about the next prime minister. Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas similarly affirmed his trust in party leadership.

Culture Minister Vaida Aleknavičienė and Interior Minister Vladislavas Kondratovičius stated they were focused on their current work. Economy and Innovation Minister Edvinas Grikšas said he always feels secure in his role.

Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys faced internal criticism from Social Democrats over his reluctance to join the party and policy misalignment with the government’s programme. Some party members, noting his ongoing travel, suggested they would not fund his potential presidential campaign.

Budrys defended his activities, stating that discussions on foreign policy, trade, and economic relations were necessary regardless of electoral ambitions.

Coalition leaders expect a government reshuffle. Democrats may propose Lukas Savickas for energy minister, while Tomas Tomilinas could take the environment portfolio. Virginijus Sinkevičius is also mentioned as a possible foreign minister. The final changes will depend on coalition negotiations, with results potentially emerging by the end of this week or early next week.

Current government affairs continue as talks proceed, according to Inga Ruginienė and other ministers.
