Šiauliai District Court has sentenced a man to eight months of restricted freedom with intensive supervision for filming women in public toilets, LRT reports.

The court ruled that the convicted man, identified as M. R., must remain at home from 10 PM to 6 AM, work, or register with the Employment Service. He is also required to participate in a behavioral correction program. During his sentence, he is prohibited from consuming psychoactive substances and visiting large shopping centers.

M. R. was ordered to pay non-pecuniary damages of €300 each to two victims.

According to court documents, on January 17, while intoxicated, M. R. entered a women’s toilet in a shopping center, went into a stall, and used his phone to film a woman in an adjacent cubicle. Despite being noticed and fleeing the scene, he returned to another shopping center later the same day and repeated the offense.

M. R. fully admitted guilt during the hearing, stating he had gone to the women’s toilet with the intent to film. He claimed he realized the woman had noticed him filming but said he did not remember how many women he had recorded in total. He admitted to consuming alcohol that day and expressed remorse for his actions.

The court acknowledged that the victims suffered distress, a sense of insecurity, and anxiety due to the defendant’s actions. However, as no evidence was provided of lasting psychological harm, the damages were set at €300 per victim. The ruling can be appealed.
