Lithuanian parliament rejects Nerijus Meilutis for second term as Court of Appeal president

The Lithuanian parliament on Tuesday rejected Nerijus Meilutis’ nomination for a second term as president of the Lithuanian Court of Appeal, LRT reports.

In a secret ballot, 25 lawmakers voted in favour of Meilutis’ reappointment, while 53 opposed it and 24 abstained.

The parliament also blocked the appointment of Marius Bartninkas as a judge of the Supreme Court of Lithuania. His candidacy received support from 32 lawmakers, with 44 voting against and 25 abstaining.

The only successful nomination was that of Gintaras Goda, former president of the Constitutional Court, who was approved as a Supreme Court judge with 72 votes in favour, 23 against, and five abstentions.
