Fegda commits to rebuilding 4 km road to Rūdninkai military training ground

A three-party agreement will be signed Friday obliging Lithuanian road construction company Fegda to fully reconstruct a defective 4 km concrete road leading to the Rūdninkai military training ground, state news agency BNS reports.

The original road, built by the same company in 2023 for €6.45 million, developed structural flaws shortly after completion. Under the new deal—signed by the Infrastructure Management Agency (acting director Tomas Ratkevičius), the Army Logistics Command (represented by Lt. Col. Rimas Macukevičius), and Fegda (CEO Gediminas Gribulis)—the firm will fund the reconstruction itself, with preliminary costs exceeding €3 million.

Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas will attend the signing. The road serves the German brigade stationed at Rūdninkai, part of Lithuania’s expanded NATO infrastructure. Last November, authorities agreed Fegda would either repair the entire stretch per expert recommendations or rebuild it at its own expense after an independent review of the defects was abandoned in February due to procedural issues.

Fegda previously laid roughly 6.5 km of access roads to the 30 km network serving the Šalčininkai District training ground. CEO Jonas Jablonskis told BNS in May that reconstruction work would begin this summer.
