Lithuanian prime minister congratulates new Danish government, stresses unity amid security challenges
Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė has congratulated Denmark’s newly formed government, emphasising the importance of allied unity in addressing shared security concerns, LRT reports.
In a message to Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Ruginienė highlighted Lithuania’s gratitude for Denmark’s long-standing partnership, calling it “exceptionally close and built on trust.” She noted that cooperation between the two nations is grounded in democratic values, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to freedom, security, and prosperity.
“Denmark has been a steadfast friend to Lithuania for many years, supporting us on our path to EU and NATO membership. We are deeply grateful for that assistance,” Ruginienė stated.
The prime minister also underscored the two countries’ collaboration on security issues and support for Ukraine. “As challenges to European and global security grow, the unity of allies is particularly vital,” she said. “Lithuania highly values Denmark’s leadership in aiding Ukraine and its people. We hope our nations will continue to work closely to strengthen Baltic Sea security, support Ukraine, and defend the principles of freedom, democracy, and a rules-based international order.”
Ruginienė extended an invitation to Frederiksen to visit Lithuania to further deepen bilateral dialogue and cooperation.
Frederiksen unveiled her new minority government on Wednesday, following months of negotiations after March elections. The coalition consists of her Social Democrats, the Socialist People’s Party, the centre-left Radical Left, and the centrist Moderates, holding 82 of 179 parliamentary seats. The government will rely on support from other parties to pass legislation.
