Scammers trick residents of Vilnius and Šilalė out of nearly €50,000

Fraudsters have swindled nearly €50,000 from residents of Vilnius and Šilalė district, police reported Thursday.

In Vilnius, a 71-year-old woman lost €19,000 after attempting to log into her bank’s online system on Wednesday. After entering authentication codes, the funds were unlawfully transferred from her account to another individual’s, according to the BNS news agency.

Meanwhile, a 62-year-old man from Šilalė reported to local police that between March 10 and May 27, he was defrauded of €30,000 through a fake cryptocurrency investment platform. The victim had believed he was making legitimate investments.

Preliminary investigations have been launched into both cases.
