A large fire erupted at a waste disposal site in Lithuania’s Panevėžys district on Monday, requiring hours of firefighting efforts to contain, state broadcaster LRT reports.
The Fire Protection and Rescue Department received an alert at 13:39 local time about the blaze in Miežiškių eldership, near the village of Dvarininkai. Upon arrival, firefighters found open flames engulfing waste materials, with strong winds causing the fire to spread throughout the disposal area.
The site contained a concrete-paved section where old, crushed furniture had been stored. Crews used four tractors to turn over and douse the burning waste with water. Approximately 3,000 cubic metres of various refuse were consumed by the fire before it was fully extinguished at 21:32.
