Several Lithuanian politicians have confirmed they were among those affected by a recent data leak from the country’s Registry Centre, public broadcaster LRT reports.
Darius Jasaitis, mayor of Neringa, told news portal 15min that data on his and his wife’s real estate was accessed from systems under the Interior Ministry as early as February. Access logs in the Registry Centre’s self-service portal show unauthorised entries on January 16, 27, and 30, as well as February 3, 16, and 17. Jasaitis stated he had contacted the ministry to identify those responsible and determine what information was collected, but received no substantive response until media reports on the breach emerged last week.
MP Jekaterina Rojaka (Democratic Party) also confirmed her data was compromised, writing on Facebook: “The fact that you’re among the ‘selected’ doesn’t flatter at all. On the contrary—it raises even more questions: by what criteria was the information ‘siphoned’? Why these specific people? Was it a random mass sweep or a targeted selection? How many others still don’t know they’re affected?”
Conservative MP Arvydas Anušauskas reported an unauthorised access attempt on February 1, questioning whether the Registry Centre’s director bore sole responsibility for concealing the breach. “This government lacks not millions of euros to solve problems, but brains, accountability, and reputation,” he wrote.
Since Monday evening, residents have been able to check via the Registry Centre’s website whether their personal data was stolen. The Prosecutor General’s Office is investigating the unauthorised access—allegedly originating from a “foreign state and through systems administered by other institutions”—and the leak of over 600,000 records. Authorities confirm the exposed data includes real estate registry extracts with personal identification numbers, but insist no contact details, payment records, bank accounts, or legal documents were compromised.
Adrijus Jusas, director of the Registry Centre since 2023, resigned on Monday and was temporarily replaced by Giedrius Cininas, head of the Prevention Department.
