Lithuania braces for sharp weather shift with rain and gusty winds after sunny weekend

Lithuania’s sunny weekend will give way to abrupt weather changes starting Monday, with rain and strong winds forecast across the country, the state hydrometeorological service reports.

According to sinoptic Teresė Kaunienė, a southwestern cyclone and cold atmospheric front will bring showers and gusty winds, with temperatures dropping as low as 13°C in some regions by midweek.

Monday night will be overcast with scattered rain, accompanied by westerly winds of 7–12 m/s. Temperatures will remain mild, staying between 8–12°C. Daytime conditions on Tuesday will see increased cloud cover, particularly in the northeast, with brief showers and winds strengthening to 9–14 m/s, reaching gusts of 15–18 m/s in places. Highs will range from 17–22°C inland to 13–16°C along the coast.

Wednesday will bring further cooling as a cold front moves through, with widespread brief showers and possible thunderstorms in the Aukštaitija region. Daytime temperatures will drop to 13–18°C, while winds—predominantly northwesterly—will gust up to 18 m/s. Nighttime lows will hover around 7–12°C.

Conditions will remain largely unchanged on Thursday, with scattered showers and persistent winds of 15–17 m/s. Eastern regions will see the most precipitation. Nighttime temperatures will dip to 5–10°C, with daytime highs recovering slightly to 13–18°C.

Drier and sunnier weather is expected from Friday onward, with temperatures gradually warming. Friday and Saturday will see highs of 15–20°C, rising to 19–24°C inland by Sunday, though coastal areas will remain cooler at 15–18°C. Winds will ease, shifting direction by Sunday as a low-pressure system approaches from the west, bringing isolated evening showers to western regions.
