Telephone scammers have defrauded three Lithuanian residents of a total €52,000 in separate incidents, the Lithuanian Police Department reported on Friday.

In Vilnius, a 91-year-old woman reported that unknown individuals called her home on Thursday around 10:30 AM, posing as clinic staff and police officers. Speaking in Russian, they tricked her into transferring €20,000. A second Vilnius resident, aged 86, was similarly deceived by a Russian-speaking caller claiming to be a police officer, losing €15,000 in the scam.

A 69-year-old woman from Kaunas District also fell victim after receiving a call on May 12 from a Russian-speaking woman impersonating a bank employee. She was swindled out of €17,000.

Preliminary investigations into all three cases have been launched on suspicion of fraud.
