The leader of Lithuania’s Social Democratic Party (LSDP), Mindaugas Sinkevičius, stated that a police raid on the ruling Nemuno Aušra party will not single-handedly determine its coalition future but will factor into a broader political evaluation, LRT reports.

Following searches by law enforcement at the party’s headquarters and the home of its chairman, Seimas member Remigijus Žemaitaitis, Sinkevičius confirmed that social democrats will soon decide whether to continue in the current coalition or push for restructuring. “This decision will be based on a comprehensive political assessment—not dictated by any single procedural action, though such events will undoubtedly be part of the overall evaluation,” he told BNS.

Sinkevičius expressed confidence in the impartiality and professionalism of law enforcement, adding that he expects the pre-trial investigation into Žemaitaitis’ alleged improper car rental deal to “provide answers to the public as swiftly as possible.”

The raid is linked to suspicions surrounding Žemaitaitis’ use of a rented vehicle, though no charges have been formally announced. The Nemuno Aušra party, a junior partner in Lithuania’s governing coalition, has faced repeated scrutiny over ethical and legal controversies involving its members.
