Lithuania to face rain and thunderstorms as cyclone moves in at start of week

A cyclone moving in from the west will bring cooler temperatures, rain, and thunderstorms to Lithuania at the start of the week, though conditions are expected to improve by the weekend, the country’s hydrometeorological service reports.

According to Teresė Kaunienė, a forecaster at Lithuania’s Hydrometeorological Service, Monday night will see widespread showers, particularly in western regions, with heavy downpours and possible thunderstorms. Southeasterly winds of 8–13 m/s are expected, reaching 15 m/s near coastal areas, with overnight temperatures ranging from 6°C to 11°C.

Tuesday will bring partly cloudy skies but scattered showers, some accompanied by thunder. Winds will shift from southeasterly to southwesterly, with daytime highs of 15–20°C in most areas, though coastal and western regions will remain cooler at 9–14°C.

Rain and thunderstorms will persist into Wednesday, particularly in eastern Lithuania, with westerly winds of 6–11 m/s. Nighttime temperatures will drop to 4–9°C, while daytime highs on Wednesday will reach 10–15°C despite some clearing.

Thursday will see a mix of clouds and sun, with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. Southerly winds of 7–12 m/s will push temperatures up to 14–19°C. Overnight, patchy fog may form as winds ease, with lows of 2–7°C and ground frost possible in some areas.

Friday is forecast to be mostly dry and warmer, with temperatures climbing to 17–22°C. While light rain may occur in western regions, the weekend is expected to remain largely warm, with highs holding steady and only isolated showers in some areas.
