Lithuanian journalist Rūta Sinkevičienė awarded Vincas Kudirka Prize for documentary films

The Lithuanian Union of Journalists has awarded its prestigious Vincas Kudirka Prize to Rūta Sinkevičienė, a documentary filmmaker for Lithuanian National Television (LRT), the union announced on May 7 during a ceremony at the Ministry of Culture.

Sinkevičienė received the 3,000-euro prize for her films “Juozas Žemaitis-Vytautas: The Last Wish” and “Monsignor Alfonso Svarinsko’s Homily”, selected for their high journalistic standards and contribution to civic education and national identity. The award includes a diploma, medal, and cash prize.

The Vincas Kudirka Prize, established by the Lithuanian Union of Journalists and the National Association of Journalists, honors outstanding work in print, radio, television, or photojournalism that upholds ethical values and strengthens Lithuanian statehood. This year’s ceremony was attended by union president Audrys Antanaitis, Deputy Culture Minister Viktor Denisenko, and other officials.

Over the past five years, Sinkevičienė has directed six documentaries for LRT, including “Black Bird: Memory of the Roma Genocide” and “1944: The General’s Mission”, the latter of which won the Antanas Macijauskas Prize in 2025. Her films are available on the LRT Epika platform.
