Couple attempting to buy Alytus apartment lose €79,000 in suspected scam

A married couple in Lithuania transferred €79,000 to suspected fraudsters after attempting to purchase an apartment in Alytus, police reported on Tuesday.

The victims discovered the property listing online in March and proceeded with the transaction, only to later realise they may have fallen prey to a scam. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident.

In a separate case, a 72-year-old man reported losing over €12,000 after unknown individuals withdrew the funds from his bank account without authorisation. Police have initiated a pre-trial investigation into this incident as well.
