Vilnius to open renovated St. Florian Square with fire safety theme
A newly renovated St. Florian Square will open in Vilnius’s Naujamiestis district on Monday, the city municipality announced.
According to the announcement, the square has been redesigned with a fire safety theme, featuring new walking paths, children’s playgrounds, sports zones, and small architectural elements. Play areas incorporate fire safety motifs, while information on fire prevention is provided in Braille and via QR codes.
During the opening ceremony, artist Darius Janonis will collaborate with residents to transform a blank wall into a fire-themed mural, with live painting and public participation encouraged.
Vilnius Mayor Valdo Benkunskas described the square as a “non-standard public space” where children can play and explore while parents enjoy a safe, comfortable environment. “I hope this place will become a beloved community hub for the neighbourhood,” he said in the statement.
The opening event will include a fire truck exhibition, rescue demonstrations, fire extinguishing simulations, and training on using fire extinguishers. Children’s activities will feature an obstacle course, performances, and bubble stations, while sports competitions will be organised for teens and adults.
The square’s redesign repurposes a previously underused space into a vibrant community area, blending recreation with fire safety education.
